About Us
The Homeless Family Center provides Emergency and Transitional Shelter for Homeless Singles and Families with Children. We have 16 family bedrooms and 3 single bedrooms in our 4th Street Facility. We are not just a shelter, we also provide several programs for our clients, as described below:
Emergency Shelter - For Homeless individuals from Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties, also limited space for transient individuals. Case Management interviews each client and develops a case plan based on their goals and objectives. This program is limited to a 90 day stay. Food, clothing, shelter, employment services and case management is provided; clients who are able to work, must work full time.
Transitional Shelter - For homeless families who need longer to get back on their feet. This program is extended to 2 years, as long as the client continues to follow house rules and work with case management. With the Transitional Shelter program, there is more intense Case Management, focusing on job skills (Employment and Training), housing, and budgeting.
Employment Training - Any client who resides at the Center can work with the Employment Counselor, who can provide training and job placement services. Residents are required to be employed 40 hours and save 75% of their income.
Mental Health Counseling - With a partnership with Mental Health Association, we have an on-site counselor who is able to see clients as needed for various sessions.
Children's Program - Our counselor helps with Self-Esteem issues, using art therapy and group classes. On Tuesday night, we have our volunteer children's program for different age groups. This program offers mentoring, homework help and various other activities.
